Setting up email box in Outlook Express: Linux Hosting Plans

  1. For manual setup open up Outlook and click on "Tools" then "Accounts" (make sure you're on "mail" tab) then click on "add" and select "mail".
  2. Type in your display name and click "next"
  3. It should ask you for your email address. Type in full email address and click "next"
  4. Incoming mail server should be set to "POP3"
  5. Incoming mail server (POP3): type in your domain name without the www in front (example: "yourdomain.com").
  6. Outgoing mail server (SMTP): type in your domain name without the www in front (example: "yourdomain.com").
NOTE: If you can receive mail but not send mail, try using your ISP's outgoing mail server here. (See item 12 below for setup.)
  7. Account Name: type in the name of the email address that you set for the mail account in Control Panel. (example: if your email address is "bob@yourdomain.com" type in just "bob")
  8. Password: Type in the password that you set for the mail account in Control Panel, this is not necessarily the same password as your hosting account password.
  9. Re: "Log on using Secure Password Authentication:" leave this box unchecked, if you check this it will not work.
  10. Click "Next" and then "Finish"
  11. Go into your mail "Properties," click "Servers" tab and compare the screenshot below to your settings. Make sure the checkbox "My server requires authentication" is checked, see shaded area below.

  12. Provided you have everything set up in your Control Panel and your domain DNS is transferred you should be able to send and receive mail with a good internet connection. If you can recieve mail but not send mail, try using your ISP's outgoing mail server in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" as many ISP's are blocking outside mail servers in an effort to cut down on spam originating from their network. To set this up: Make sure the checkbox "My server requires authentication" is checked, see shaded area. Then click "Settings," select "Log on using" and enter the Account name and Password your ISP gave you for email. Click "OK," click "Apply" and you are all done.
